MOTUEKA WESLEYAN SUNDAY SCHOOL.

The anniversary tea meeting of the Motueka Weslcyan Sunday School was held on Good Friday. Lunch was provided at one o'clock and tea for the children at three, and at four about 240 persons sat down to a most sumptuous and tempting repast. The Hey. Mr Marten presided at the evening meeting, when addresses were delivered by several friends. The report, read by Mr A. W. Parker, was as follows : — "In presenting their annual report, the committee and teachei-3 regret that a want of sympathy on the part of the congregation prevents them from recording anything like progress cither in attendance or in the general management of the school. The number of children on the roll is 54, with an average attendance of 45, being the same as last year. There are six ttachers, two male and four female, who have to take charge of seven clssses. Another male and female tocher are badly needed. The officers of the school are— Superintendent, Mr Marten; DiputySuperinteudent, Mr Thomas; Secretaries, Messrs R. Alexander and A. W. Parker; Treasurer, Mr Glover; Librarian, Mr Delaney. We are glad to know that signs of gool have been among us, and that the teachers have not laborerl in vain. The great Shepherd has blessed their (efforts, and several of the scholars give evidence of a work of grace in their hearts, and seven of them are meeting in class. While thus watering others, the : souls of the teachers have themselves been watered. We are convinced, however, that i much more might be done could we lmt ' obtain the hearty sympathy and co-operation ' of the parents and the members of the con- : gregation. We would appeal to them for : help We fear that some of the patents leave i the whole religious instruction of their : children to the Sunday school. We would | urge upon them the importance and necessity of backing up the instruction given at school ' by good Christian training at home. We' feel grieved that bo few of the older children ' have entered the church oa their leaving ' the school. Whether this results from! some fault in our church machinery, ori through the want of more diligent oversight I and prayerful effort on our part, we are not i prepared to say, but we are resolved obe' more than ever iv earnest in seeking to lead' the children to Christ, and to make this our! one great aim. We ask the help of your' prayers that the Great Head of the Church may vouchsafe His b'essirjg upon us, and establish the work of our hands upon us.. Our library sa'ly needs i eplenishing with: good ii nd useful books; but for this help wo! must case aurselves upon the goodwill of our; friends. We trust our appeal will not be in vain, and we pray that by the blessing of God our labors may be crowned v ith success, and 1 many of the children led to the Saviour."
