TKe Inspector having read his report on several subsidised schools in .the Grey^Valley where 'disputes had arisen; it was resolved, on the motion of Mr Rotjt, That the Inspector's recommendation '-fli to -Nelson Creek be adopted,/ namely, " that the subsidy be divided between both of the schools at present j at worlq in the ratio of the numbers ] taught in each, until hid oext annual visit," when it will be determined which qf s the two, is to be assisted by the Boards ' '' ) '• Resolved also, That the subsidy to Miss Easton's school at Reefton be refused. It was further resolved, on tne motion of Archdeacon Thokpb, with reference to the Inspector's report on Mr Brown's, school at Reefton, That Mr Brown be informed that the Board endorse the opinion of the. lnspector " that the inefficient teaching of arithmetic (due solely to the increased number of scholars) necessitate the employment of a qualified assistant ; " that the Board, therefore, will be obliged to withdraw the subsidy, , hitherto granted unless such' assistant be appointed within three months of the dale of this resolution. Resolved, on the motion of Mr Wastney, That the following three members of the Board be appointed for the current : year to act with the Inspector in granting certificates of com ;l potency to candidates for the office of teacher, two to be a quorum: — Archdeacon Thorpe, ; Messrs Broad; and Shephard. Resolved, on the motion of Mr Smith, That £7 be granted to the Suburban North Committee, to defray the coat of shingling part of the teacher's house. jVjj ... The ' Inspector was authorised to mako arrangements with the Rev I). M'Nicol for re-shingling the schoolroom at Brunnerton, the cost to be deducted from the rent. Resolved, That the Inspector be authorised to procure a Btove for the school at Brunnertoo, at a cost not exceedingly.; ' . , A letter having been read from the lessees of the Amuri Reserve, applying for a new lease, the Secretary was : authorised to advertise in the Nelson and Canterbury papers, asking for tenders for a new fourteen years* lease, to be sent in within three months. Mr John Reid's offer of one shilling per acre for No. 58, Totara Flat, was declined. An i ofler of 4s per acre, made by Mr H. Gilmer, and accom- ■ pauied by a cheque for a year's rent, was accepted. Resolved, on the motion of Mr Wastney, That from April Ist the ] salary of the assistant at Spring Grove be at the rate, of £36 per annum. The Board having been requested, as lessors of No. 88, Westport, to sign Mr Maclean's deed of composition, it was 'resolved, on the motion of Mr Rout, That the trustees be informed that the Board will not sign any deed of "composition, but will give the trustees the option of paying all arrears of rent, or of surrendering the lease. Resolved, on the motion of Mr .Wastney, That Local Committees be requested,- in future, to give the Secretary timely notice of the resignation of any teacher in their employ, with a statement of the exact amount of salary due to him, on his leaving the school. . Resolved, on the motion of Mi/ Wastney, That Local Committees he recommended, when advertising for a new teacher, to allow such an interval to elapse, before filling up the appointment, as will give' intending applicants ample opportunity of obtaining a special certificate from the Board of Examiners. Resolved, op the motion of the Rev. . T.Buddlk, That the estimate of the requirements of the Board, for th# ensuing financial,. year, prepared odd read by tbe Secretary, be adopted, and forwarded to the Provincial Government, accompanied by full explanations of tbe several items. A letter was read from two members of the Collirigwood Education Committee, complaining of the non-intei-ference.of the Board with the majority of the Committee, who had granted the use of the school-room for a Foresters/ | fete. / A. letter was read from Mr Sadd, referring to his salary.
