The steamer Egmont left Wanganui at S a.m. on Monday, with light breeze from N.W., at 7 a.m blowing strong snd increased with showers of rain; at 1 p.m., on account of the high eea running, Captain Irvine deemed it accessary to take shelter in Port Hardy for the safely of tbe shsep, where be anchored at 2pm; left again at 8 p.m. on the 17th, and arrived here at 6 30 a.m. to-day. The barque Melrose, Caplain Kenny, arrived off. the Lighihouaa on Tuesday Jast, and was towed into harbor yestoiday afternoon by the Wallace. She left Newcastle on March 5, experienced light E. and N E. winds all the way across, arriving as above. She brings a cargo of 398 tons coil, consigned to Messrs N. Edwards & Co.
