At the Police Court to-day, Henry Petitt was committed for trial for assaulting the wife of Mr Cornford, a solicitor, of Napler,in December last. The evidence showed thflt be had followed Mrs Comford into an outhouse, closed the door, seized her and threw her on the floor, end threatened to kill her with a knife, unless she gave b : m £10. After some parley he let her out to get the money when she escaped and fell, fainting. Be then disappeared over a fence. Prisoner pleaded guilty. The Williamson Testimonial Committee have issued a list initiating a subscription to he invested rs follow? :— First, to provide an income for Mrs Williamson for life, and after her deceaee, for Miss Williamson, if she shou d survive. Secondly— Af l er the decease of the survivor, to establish a school at Auckland, or a scholarship in the Auckland Grammar School, at toe discretion of the trustees, to be called Williamson's Memorial School or Scholarship. Any subscribers to the amount of £5, directing that his subscription be treated, as a loan for the benefit of Mrs Williamson only, to be entitled to have the money returned at her decease. The loan may be expended for the benefit of Misa Williamson for life, also to be returned at the death of the survivor, if so desired.
