Christchurcii, Friday. The Provincial Council is summoned (o meet on the 2nd April. A lively session is expected. The management of therailways will create a great deal of discussion, many being of opinion that greater economy could be exercise*. An archery match is on the tapis between the Christchurch and Auckland Clubs. Sirainge and Fountain's drapery shop was burglariously entered on Tuesday night, and a small quantity of goods stolen. Mr J. L. Caster resumes the management of the Bank of New Zealand here, and Mr Holt, the present manager, goes to Sydney to t»ke charge of the branch i ecently established • there. At a meeting of the representatives of the New Zealand Shipping Company, it was resolved to reduce tho freight of wheat throughout the colony from ftfis to £os. Typhoid fever is more prevalent in Christchurch now than ior many years, and the Times this morning vigorously urges ihe necessity of improved sanitary measures. A fire broke out in Hubert's batter's chop last evening. They were large timber buUt premises. The fire brigade were at work in seven minutes, and the steam fire engine in a quarter of an hour. After a hard struggle, the flames were kept irom spreading to the adjoiniDg houses, though tbey buißt through the walls and roof many times. Only the shell of the building remains standing. Ihe loss is £2300. It was insured ior £400 in the National, end £600 in the South British. The building was only insured for £ oa ia the New Zealand. Wellington, FiiJay.
