Yatterina and Medicus do not stand for the Cup. Wellington, Tuesday. A fira occurred at the Star Hotel, Newton, at one o'clock this morning. The lanllord had been engaged bottling in the store-room until after midn'ght, when it is supposed some s Taw accidentally igoired, as after going to bed he heard a noise like the bursting of bottles, and went down and fuun 1 the store-room folt of smoke. He gave the alarm, and got his wife and children out, anl went upstairs and aroused ibe lodgers, the fire meanwhile spreading so rapidly in the wooden' building that they barely got down stairs to the street, one who was unable to do bo jumped out of the upstairs window and sustained serious injury. The exertions of the people successfully prevented the fire from extending any further. The insurances are not yet ascertained. Bluff, Tuesday. The Otago left Melbourne on the 24th, and arrived at the Bluff this morning. She brings 38 saloon and 40 steerage passengers, and 300 tons of cargo for all ports. She sails for Dunedin at 4 p.m. Passengers for Nelson: Mrs Franzen, Mrs and the Misses Gillies (2), Masters Gillies (2), and five in the steerage.
