For tho principal race, an iron yacht, which for the past three years has been lying in an unfinished state opposite the Commercial Wharf, has been completed by Messrs' Freeman Brothers. She made a trial trip on Thursday, when everything was found to work satisfactorily. Some of the Victorian sporting writers continue to write favorably of the chances of Lurltue for the Geelong Cup. She was said to be in good form — very different from that ehe exhibited on the Melbourne Cup Day. " Beacon," in the Leader, however, gives the race to Haricot, with Melbourne second, and Lurline third. The betting as to these horses was three and four to one, and five to one was offered about Lurline. Yesterday (says the New Zealand Times of Thursday lost) an interesting event took place in the city, which created not a little interest, especially in one prominent section of the community — we refer to the marriage of Mr Henry Cohen, of Willis-street, with Miss Jane Levy, daughter of Mr Benjamin Levy, of Lambton-quay. Tbe ceremony was performed in the Synngogue (which presented an extremely pretty sight), at three o'clock p.m., Id a very impressive manner, by the Rev. David Isaacs, of Nelson, who came over to Wellington for the purpose. The bride was elegantly attired in white moire antique, with a long and rich white lace veil, and looked extremely lovely. She was attended by nine little ladies — six of them her sisters — as bridesmaids, nil dressed in white, with colored edgings to their dresses — who attracted great admiration.
