The Superintendent, who has been . suffer • ing from dysentery and affection of the brain, earned by exctßßive heat while at the Thames, has taken sn unfavorable turn, and now lies in h precarious state. The Star of the South has arrived from Fiji. She reports a heavy gale nt Levuka, when HM. schooner Eagle and other small vessels were driven ashore, but floated off •without serious injury. The cutter Anne Young sank during the night, and her owners and two others were drowned. Affairs in the colony are dull, owing to the transition state from the cottoa to the sugar industry, and th 9 unsettled state of politics. A Sugar Crushing and Refining Company, with a capital of £100,000, to encourage the growth of 'TB6\ sugar cane, is.pTOjected, and the co • operation of iN'ew Zealand and Australia U relied upon. Cakabau, on bis return, introduced the measles from Sydney, from which several natives are suffering. Mr layard has interviewed the mountain tribes, and received their submission. Blttbt, Monday. The Albion with the Suez mail left Melbourne at four p.m. on t 1 c 10th, and arrived at the Bluff at 8 a.m. to-day. She brings 32 saloon ani 50 steerage passengers, and 340 tons of cargo for all ports. She sails for Dunedin at 4 p m. to-day.
