Sydney, February 2. Wheat is dull and prices are weaker. The new crops ure promising. The Government were defeated on an amendment to the address, censuring the Ministry and the Governor r Gardiner's release, by a majority of four. The Ministry has resigned. The Governor bas^pronounced the position one of unexampi^i difficulty, and has aeked time to consider. Two months' supply has been voted. The Torres' Straits mail waa delivered to-day. It brings further particulars re the wreck of the Mongol, late on the Californian line. Captain Fiamack, Mr Flsmack, the chief mate, and fourteen others were drowned. Archbishop Yaughan is making a tour of the country districts, and ie well received. Mr Wilkinson is elected chairman of the Wesleyan Conference: The anniversary regatta waa the best for years. The yacht race was won by the Maggie, and waa the closest ever Bailed here. The employees in Cameron's tobacco factory are still on strike. The political crisis is unchanged. The Governor has accepted the resignation of Ministers, but wishes the Houro to exchange the position of the amended address (?) Thompson, the sole survivor of the Hume expedition, has reached Borneo. He says that the report of seeing the other's bo^iy is untrue, and believes him to be 'stitl alive. N Melboubnb, February 2. The Rev. Mr Robertson, of the Presbyterian Church, died suddenly.
The Rev. Mr Harcourt is elected President of the Wesleyan Conference. Haricot aud Melbourne are favorites for the Geelong gold cup. Victoria has applied by telegraph for 15,000 feet of floor epace, and 7500 feet of wall space at the Philadelphia exhibition. Tho Government lose £8000 by the burning of the Avenel railway station goods store. The St. Osyth has sailed full of passengers. On Sunday the cottage of Mr Irviue was burnt at Yorraville. The three houses adjoining were also destroypd. Hu/nan remains were found in a charred state, supposed to be Mr Irvine's wife. In the South Melbourne v. Richmond match for the challenge cup, the former won by over 200. Hobakt Town, February 2. The cricket match between the Tasmaniau team eleven (?) has commenced. The weather was beautiful. There was a large attendance, and lha Govori nor was present. The Tssmanian team made sixty, and following their in- ! nings scored 210, then wont to the wickets and won by 8 wickets (?) Arrived: Swatara. Adelaide, February 2. Sir James Fisch was buried to-day. There was a large public cortege. Wheat, 3s 1OJ; flour, £9 15s to £10 10s. Sailed: Pera, for Galle. Brisbane, February 2. The Townsville boat upset going to Victoria with thirty-three Chinamen on board. Twelve are missing. A fire burnt two shops in Queen-st.
