ArpENDIX. Suggestions .ib to the Mktiioi> of Examination for HhadiNg and Recil'Atiok PkijSes, 187 S. I beg to pi'opose— lst. That the candidates for the reading and recitation pr zeß in the home districts, should rac-.t for examination, as was done last vcav, in four centres—Nelson, Richmond, Waimea South, and Lower Moutere. 2nd. That as no convenient centre can be 'ound for the chil attending either the ddlden Bay o- the Wes 1 ; Coast schoo s, the examinations in those districts be conducted* us heretofore, by the Inspector alone, during his annual visit to each school in March and April. 3rd. That, in the home districts, an assessor should be appointed by the Board to accompany the Inspector to each centre, last year's experience having shown that the expedient of appointing two delegates chosen by the Local Committees in the neighborhood oE each centre, works ladly. Uniformity of scile a r ul unanimity of decision would also proirably be better s' cured by the plan suggested than by that of having a fresh set of judges at each centre. 4th. That, although i'or obvious reason?, the passages selected for reading should not be previously made known to the candidates, the same piece should be selected for recitation throughout tho province, the choice being made public. Campbell's "Hohenlinden " would bo a suitable poem for recitation. 5. That each school be allowed to send two candidates, without distinction of sex, the limit of age being fixed, as hst year, at 15. W C. Hodgson, Inspector.
