Meeting of Ratepayers. — A meeting will be held at the Provincial Hall tbis evening for tbe purpose of nominating a Mayor. Weslayan Conference. — At the Wesieyan Conference meeting; now being held in Auckland, the Rev. J. Buller has been elected president, and tbe Rev. Mr Reid Secretary. Arrival of thb Suez Mail.— The Atbion, with the Suez mail which was only due at Melbourne on Wednesday last, arrived at the Bluff this morning after a quick run of four days seven hours. Fancy Dbkss Ball. — We are requested to state tbat the Fancy Ball, which was to have been held on the 22nd instant, is unavoidably postponed until the 29th. Railway Arbitration- Court. — Judgment was given to-day in Mr Jenkins' caee. The claim was for £1683, and the offer made by the Government £950, a cart bridge, nnd two level crossings. The award of the Assessors was for £1000, the accommodation works offered, and costs not exceeding £50. Another case waß commenced to-day in which Mr Martin of Stoke is the claimant. Tbe claim sent in is for £1115 lis 3d, arid the offer made by the Government £500. Mr Acton Adams appeared for (he claimant, and Mr Henry Adams for the -Government.
