Steam Subsidy.— The Post-office authorities have agreed to give Messrs Edwards & Co a subsidy for conveying the incoming and outgoing San Francisco mails between Nelson and the West Coast ports. The service will commence to-day, when the Wallace will, on the arrival of the Wellington, start with the mails for the West Coast. National Bank v. Mortimer — The jury yesterday, in order to mark their sympathy with Mr Mortimer, who had been so clearly proved to be one of William Stavert's victims, returned the fees to whioh they were entitled for their services. Unclaimed Letters. — The following is a list of tbe letters received at the Nelson Post Office during the month of September, and unclaimed on the 31st December, 1874 :— W. J. Brough, James Crust, Alex. Davidson, W. Halland, Julius Mathews, Joseph Sherrett, Chines Stoar Sinchim, J. Wooster, Wm. Watson.
