The Nelson Evening Mail. TUESDAY, JANUARY 5, 1875.
With the presentment made yesterday by tbe Grand Jury to his Honor Mr Justice Richmond, tbe people of Nelson will, one and all, most cordially agree. With calm and quiet, yet impressive, dignity, with ability fully equal to that displ .yed by any Judge in tue colony, and wiih the strictest impartiality, be baß for seven years presided over the business of the Supreme Court in tbe district assigned to him, and it must be gratifying to him to receive the absurance that the manner in which l>e has so conscientiously filled the responsible position he has held for so long a term of years is duly appreciated by tbe people of Nelson, whom he has taught to honor, esteem, and respect him, and who regard his approaching departure with tbe keenest regret. The members of tbe bur canuot hava failed to ba impreHnwrl with the
invariable courtesy with which he has treated them, while those who have had occasion to attend the sittings of the Court in the capacity of jurors or witnesses will always remember the kind, consideration he has shown for their comfort and convenience. By all of these will bis removal to another district be regarded as a serious loss, and if, as all most earnestly hope it may be, the prospect which he yesterday held out of his return to Nelson at some future date should ever be realised, he may depend upon receiving a hearty welcome from all classes of the community. In no safer bands than those of Mr Justice Richmond could the administration of justice be placed, and to whatever district he may ultimately be assigned he will prove an acquisition upon which the residents may congratulate themselves and be congratulated by others. They will gain that which we lose, an able, upright, and amiable Judge.
