Supreme Court.—The sittings of the Supreme Court commence on Monday next, at 10 a.m. Steamer Lady Barkly.— The p.s. Lady Barkiy will positively sail for Motueka and Collingwood, according to advertisement, on Monday. The San Francißco mail not having arrived at Auckland on her due date, the Phoebe has been despatched without it. She will arrive here to-morrow mornin?, and sail for Picton and the South on Monday afternoon. Death op Mr. Hadfield.— Many of our readers will learn with regret that Mr F. B. Hadfield, a settler of some years standing, aud who was highly respected by all who knew him, died.yesterday at his residence, in Waimea-street, after a long and painful illness. He will be buried in the new cemetery to-morrow afternoon. The Karamea. —We understand that several more immigrants, disgusted with the manner in which affairs are managed at the new settlement, have left the place and found their way, some to Westport and some to Nelson. On Monday we shall be able to give further particulars. Serious . Accident.—An accident, the result of which it iB feared may prove serious , to one or more of those injured, occurred on Thursday night on board the steamer Charles Edward. Mr Robinson, the mate, Reuben Morris, the steward, and a seaman named Robert Limpus were preparing to fire a gun and burn blue lights at midnight, and in so , doing had left ne^r them an open can of powoer holding about Olba. A spark from the blue light fell into the can, when the powder exploded with a loud report. All three are aeriouslr hurt about the face, -and Limpus had the flesh blown oft 1 one of his wrists. Robinson was at once convoyed to the Masonic Hotel, and the two others were taken the next morning to the Hospital, where they nowlie. Biphop Selwyn has been visiting California and returned to Europe on the 14th October/ The Kennedy family have done remarkably, well in Sydney. They have given a ■■' benefit performance to the St. Andrew's • Scottish Benevolent Society, woieh realised : £71 clear.
