MARLBOROUGH V. NELSON.

To the Editor ov the 'Evening Mail.j Sir —Mr Wix has taken exception in this morning's Colonist to some remarks I made upon his bowling in the late match with Marlborough, to which I suppose I shall be expected to reply. Judging from the internal evidence afforded by the letter before me and one which recently appsared signed " Bull's Eye," I should imagine that Mr Wix was identical with the writer who was of opinion that because a reporter in a friendly manner noticed one or two shortcomings in a dramatic entertainment he must have been influenced by personal animus against one or more of the performers, and who further preached the remarkable doctrine that the representatives of the press, being allowed free admission, displayed bad taste in offering any criticisms upon the performance. lam therefore not at all surprised to find that he accuses me of wilful perversion of the truth because my estimate of his bowling powers doeß not coincide with hia own. lam not going to argue the question whether Mr Wix did or did not bowl straight but simply adhere to my original statement, which was the result of careful personal observation. I will conclude with one or two words of advice to Mr Wix, which, although they refer to a game " the rudiments of which I evidently misunderstand," may prove useful to him if he will but adopt them. Let him for the future eschew bowling altogether, and devote his attention to the practice of batting. Then, being a very good hand in the field, he may hope to add to the strength of the Nelson eleven. I am, &c, The Person who Wrote tub Account.
