Tbe weather is now dull and cloudy, with dote heat. Dr. Hector reports the utter failure of the observation all over New Zealand, as, just at the critical moment, the sun was obscured. Hopes are entertained of further observations at 5 o'clock. Chbistchurch, We faeaday A nanow escape from fire under singular circumstances occurred at Warner's Hotel yesterday. The rays of the sun shining through a bedroom window were focalised by a glass water bottle on to a towel with such effect as to came ignition, and the table was just commencing to burn when the fire was discovered. .._ S Bluitf, Tuesday evening.
