Waxoanui, Friday. Mr Freeman R. Jackson sold to-day 1000 aheep and 70 store cattle. Ewes with lambs, in wool, fckhei from 17s to 355; hoggets, from 16s 6d to 21s 6<L Seventy two-tooth Lincoln rams sold at £8 to £8 2s 6d; imported ram, £21. For tbe cattle the following prices were realised .—Yearlings, £2 7s 6d; iwo-year-old heifers, £3 7s 6d; eighteen month steers, £4 2s 6d; bollocks, £5; cows, £5 2s 6d. The cattle were mostly booght for shipment. A good many buyers were present, hut there was little competition. The sheep did not realise satisfactory prices. W-xmxgtojc, Thursday. Two Gazettes (extraordinary) were published to-day. The first announced that the administration of the Government bad been assumed by lhe Marquis of Normanby, the second proroguing the General Assembly to the Ist of-March next. k Christchubch, Friday. Mr C. C. Bowen sat as Resident Magistrate on the Christcburch bench for the last time , yesterday,}when the members of the legal . profession assembled in abo iy, and through Mr P. S. Duncan, President of the Law Society in Canterbury, tendered ao expression of regret at his retirement from the bench. Thsy expressed earnest wishes for his success in his new sphere of action, also remarking that, knowing Mr Bowen as others did rot know him, they felt confident that a very short time would suffice to show him to be the right man in the right place as Minister of Justice. Subscription lists are opened for presenting him with a pnbiic testimonial, and a Laige amount has already been subscribed. Auckland, Friday. The Marquis of Nornnnby's levee was , well attended to-day. The Marchioness holds a reception to-morrow. Mr Buckland reports fat cattle 25s to 27s 6d per IOOlbs; sheep, 3d to 3_d per lb. Dunedin, Friday. Messrs Brown and Son quote grain of all sorts as firmer. Wheat, goad to prime, 5s to 5s 6d} oats, scarce and wan tel, 5s 61 to 6s; barley, 4s 6d to 5s 3J; flour, advanced, £13 to £13 10s; pollard, £6 10s; bran, £5 10s.
