He had intended to await the arrival of bis successor, to render his advent easy and useful; but be had loand that instead of helping he would, by remaining, hinder and inconvenience both bis successor and tbe public. It bad been his pleasure to watch tbeir disinterested efforts for tbe colony, which their expressions of regard, and he hoped to see ought to be very proud of them, as it doubtless was. To all classes he was grateful for a speedy development of the great mineral wealth with wbich Providence bad blessed tbe country. No man who had been in the colonies would be more assiduous in his endeavors after, or more desirous of its welfare than himself. No opportunities or talents which he might possess would be lost for advancing its interests. Three cheers for Sir James and three for his lady having been given, his Excellency continued — He had known hia successor for twenty years, had sat in tbe Bouse ot Commous with him, believed he would be useful to the colony, felt sure be would receive a hearty welcome, and called for three cheers for the Marquis of Norroanby, wbich were lustily given.
