Special Settlement.— Those of tl c lately arrived immigrants who are willing to proceed to the Karamea are requested to meet the Immigration Officer, at the depot, at 7 o'clock this evening. The Westport Time* gays that a match between the Nelson and Westport cricket clubs is spoken .of. Messrs Sharp an'J Pickering report the sale, to Mr George Harper, of the land and warehouse, recently occupied by Mr T. R. Fisher, for £1110. The friends of Mr Collins, wh-j recently, arrived at Auckland in the Hydflapep, will be glad to learn that the repoit of his being in a dying state was altogether without foundation, a private telegram having been received from Auckland last night etai ing that he was quite wall and heary. The iron workers of Nelson both in town and country intend keeping holiday on Saturday afternoon, when their rtnnual dinner wilt take place at the Star and Garter, Richmond. CALfFORNIAN MINTTHELS — The minstrels had another crowded bouse last night, when the singing iv the first part was remarkably good, as were two solos Inter in the evening, namely, "The Pilgrims of Love," by Mr Movor, and "Hear me, gentle Mai itana," by Mr Amery. A violin solo, with imitations, by Mr Herman, was also loudly applauded. The jokes of Messrs Kelly and Suif.on gave rise to shouts of laughter, which also formed a running accompanment to the farces and buries* ques. The piano accompanments were excellently played by Mr Caliimore. The company is advertised to appear to-night lor the last time in Nelson. On this occasion there will be three farces, one in particular, the " Lunatic Asylum," being most amusing. The Taranaki Herald states that the Bite of the proposed lighthouse on Gape Egmont was fixed upon by the hon the Commieait ncr of Customs, on his late visit to Taranaki. '- During the month of October the nrrivala of immigrants iv the port of Duaedin were 1193. of whom 680 were males and 513 females or" all ages. 'Che departures in tho same period amounted to only 187, of whom 155 were males and 32 maks. Coastwise passengers were not included in the calculation. _ _ . Housekeepers in Hokiiika, remarks the Times, think that the prices of meat are enormous, but they are nothing compared with those ruling in Westport. By' ari advertisement published in the Westport Jiwiarou Friday j last, signed by all the butchers there,: the following, tariff is laid down:— -Beef, wholesale, i6d per 1b in the fore-quarter, and 10£ din the hind; whole or half sheep, 10d per lb. To hotels— Beef and mutton are charged 10J;veal, pork, chop, steak, and sauaagee, Is. Private families are to pay Is per ib for all joints; chops, steaks, and sausages, Is 3d do. In spite of the meat famine, these prices certatuly accra (o us to bo preposterous. The N. Z. Times of Monday last says: — A fo?, almost as dense as those for which London is noted, enveloped this city during Saturday night and yesterday morning, A singular-looking cloud was visible to the southward from early on Saturday, but appeared to be stationary. In the evening, however it bad reached the city, and up to eleven o'clock caused no inconvenience, but as the morning drew on houses on the opposite side of the street were not visible. At seven o'clock yesterday the fog began to lift, revealing a glorious morning. Steamers in the strait encountered it, the Napier and Star of the South being delayed several houra in consequence.
