CANTERBURY RACES.
Chmstchubch, Friday. The Metropolitan races were continued today The weather was very fine, and th. re was a large attendance of spectators on the course. The results of the events were as follows: — Handicap Hurdle Race, of 50 sovg, added to a sweepstake of 5 soys, two miles: Mr Barton's br g Theodore, 1 ; Mr Lunn's g m Alice Grey, 2. The latter lost several lengths at tbe start. Both hones jumped splendidly throughout the race. Alice Grey gained gradually all the way round, and half way up the straight was on level ttrms with Theodore, but was hard lidden. Theodore ■was then railed on, and won by two lengths. Methopolitax Handicap, of 100 soys, added to a sweepstake of 5 soys. One and a half miles : Mr Delemain's b h Templeton, 4 yrs, 9st lib, 1 ; Mr b c Tadmor, 3 yrs, 7st 7lbs, 2; Mr Barker's br f Remnant, 3 yrs, . 6st lllbs, 3. Ydtterina, Parawhenua, Rangi, the Belle and Exile also ran. Tambourioi, Traitor, Sonnambula, Toi, Marvel, Emmeline colt and Zig Zag colt were scratched. Alt r nine false starts tbe lot got fairly away, Parawhenua leading and Yatterina being last. Half w*y Templeton and Exile joined Parawhenm, but tbe latter was »oon after passed 5y Tadmor. Coming down the ttraight, Templeton, Tadmor, and Remnant came to the front, and after a splendid ftrnggle, Templeton won by half a length. Time, 3 mins 48 sees. Parawhenua and Yatterina were the fsvo ites at the start Chkistchtoch Plate, of 150 soya, added to a sweepstake of 5 soys. Weight for age, with penalties, and allowances to maidens two miles: Mr Redwood's chfNgaro, 3 yrs, 6stßlbs, I; Mr Nosworthy's b h Traitor, 4 yrs, 6st 71bs, 2; Mr O'Brien's b g Tambourini, 6 yrs, lost lllbs, 3. Yatterina, Templ&ton. Wainui, Sonnambula, and Ada colt were , scratched, Betting 5t04 on Traitor, 3to 3 against Ngsro, and 3 to 1 against Tambourini. Traitor made the running at a fast pace, Tambourini being secmd for the first mile, when Ngaro commenced to group; collarei Traitor in the rtraight, and after a n,agnificenf race home, won by half a head. Tambourini wss out-pa' ed from the flr«t, and „ polled up in the straight. Time, 3mins 48sec. Selling Race, three-quarters of a mile: Mr M'Kinnon's No Gentleman, £30, 85t 4lbs 1; Mr Zig Zag colt, £40, 7st 13lbs, 2. Bettin* level on No Gentleman, who sprang away with a lt&<1, never was caught, ant won easily by five lengths. Coxsolatiow Handicap, of 40 soys, 1 mile: Mr Hedge's eh g Exile, aged, 6st 7lbs, 1 ; MJf -rrr WaTerley, 7st3ibs,2; Mr Redwood's b g Ptrawhenua, 5 yr«, Bst lOlbs, 3. Exile lea all the way, and won easily.
