PS.—Hnce ycu got mv letter I have gleaned the following particulnrs from Capt. Russel, of the Canterbury, who thoroughly agrees with me as to the p-ob ibility of htr being p'eked up. lhe following facts I have from him, and extracts from his loe book .— The Kaituna left Akaroa on Ottbr 13lh, bound to Oamaru and the weather since then, as shewn by the Canterbury's log, who was in the locality, was—October 14th. Southwest gale; 15th, strong SS.W. gale; 16th, strong southerly gale; 17th, shift to N W ; !Bih. S E., light; 19th, northerly, light; 20th, variable; 2lat and 22nd, W.; 23rd, lifzht N.B, latter part of the rla^ shift to SW ; 24th and 25ib, gale, S W.;' 27th, 23th, 29th, and 30th, N.W. to N.F.; fine weather when she left Oamaru on the 31st, N.W. wind I have mentioned tho direction and force of the wind to give some guide as to whero the vessel may be. On lst November, wind N«W., the Canterbury being abreast of Leborn's Bay. about 20 miles off chore, the captain saw what he supposed to be part of a vessel's deck-house, a large piece of which he took to be the fore part of the Kaituna's deck-!iouse from its color, and mentioned it at the t me to the crew. Trie probability is that Part 0f the deckhouse has been washed oil, and that the vessel will be found to the northward of the Peninaula, a considerable distance off shore W A
