Military assistance has been eent. Two railway accidents with loss of life have, occurred. There have been extensive fires in various parts of the States. 'The Beecher scindal fills many columns of the papers. Mr Beecher has published a statement denying the charge of adultery with Mrs Filton. He gays the aecuaa- ! tions arose out of Filton's want of success ai d fin insatiable desire for notoriety. The Tribune, in commenting on the statement, sa>s ic shows that Mr Beecher has been the victim of a gigantic conspiracy. Some sections of the press regret the statement aa unsatisfactory, an 1 others supported it In a fire on board the Cincinnati steamer, thirty-five lives were lost.
