CORRESPONDENCE.
To the Editor of the "Evening Mail.' Sib —ln Mr. J. H. Levien . protest against the result of the recent election for City Councillors, he says, for " Myself and other candidates not present ... I deem the present election unfair and illegal." Mr. Levien iB at perfect liberty to speak for himgelf on such matters, but as one of the "candidates not present," I do object to be included in the protest which I did not know of until seeing it in print, and more especially when I do not object to the election, and am of quite the contrary opinion to that expressed by Mr Levif n. I think also the Mayor deserves the thanks of the ratepayers for ttie great trouble he has taken in civic matters, and wish to state that all his acts in my opinion have been guided by the strictest impartiality, and that I think it is only those who can do no good themselves and believe others are on a par with them, that can think otherwise of the Mayor's actions —l am, &c, John R. Mabin. Nelson, September 12.
