Election Addresses. | TO THE BURGESSES OF THE CITY OF NELSON. 1 GENTLEMEN,— You are called, upon to\ fill up Four Vacancies tbat occur by' tbe retirement of memberi in tbe City Council. I therefore offer myself for re-election, and if returned hope to do my duty in the same impartial spirit as I have endeavored to do during several terms of office as a member cf the Boafd of Works. If yobylojne tb£honor of re-electing me, I shall suMQ/t^jictufoeasures as may be brought before tl^^non for the sanitary improvement.of tbe ( mr. Tbe drainage eommeaced should be caroled on, for I hold this to be;the* tooafceseentißl work that can be carried out to ensure tHe health of the City. The q/estion , of Sanding over ta*-the CouncilAhe Gas and Waterworka^by the Government has received my support, and I haven* doubt that it will sooprbe accomplished f I shall advocate the reduction ol the Gas rate if it Ib found practicable; Now that Nelson is constituted a Municipality, I think that th/ Mayor should be elected*-/ the Burgeslg/of the City, instead of by the Council as at present. I shall feel it my duty to support a measure having this for its object. I understand that the Mayor of Blenheim is eiecttd in this way, and that the method works well. I shall also advocate the division of the City into Wards, as this I hold is the only sure way of getting the City fairly represented in the Couucil. Gentlemen, if you place me in the honorable position to which I aspire, I will do my best to merit the confidence reposed in me. I am, Gentlemen, Yours, faithfully, 2190 J a HOOPER.
