Election AddressesTO THE BURGESSES OF THE CITY OF NELSON. GENTLEMEN,— You are called upon to fill up Four Vacancies that occur fey the retirement of member, in the City Conncil. I therefore offer myself for re-election, and if returned hope to do my duty in the same impartial spirit as I have endeavored to do during several terms of office as a member of the Board of Works. If yon do me the honor of re-electing me, I shall support such measures as may be brought before tha Council for the saniiiry improvement of the City. The drainage commenced should be carried on,' for I hold this to be;the most essential work that can be carried out to ensure the health nf the City. The question of handing over to the Council the Gaa and Waterworks ;by tbe Government has received my support, and I .bave no doubt that it will soon be accomplished. I shall advocate * the reduction of the Gas ' rate if it ia found practicable. Now that Neison is constituted a Muni- ' cipatity, I think, that the Mayor should he* eleuted by the Burgesses of the City, instead : of by tbe Council ao at present. I shall feel : Itmy duty to support a measure having this ' for its object. I understand that the Mayor j ot Blenheim is elected in this way, and that; the method works well. - I shall aleo advocate the division of the ! City into/Wards, aa this I hold ia the only I sure way of getting the City fairly represented 1 in the CbuucU. . Gentlemen, if yoa place me in the honor- j able position to which I aspire, I will do my! best to merit the confidence reposed in me. lam, Gentlemen, Yours, faithfully, 2190 J .
