Fiji news by the Cypbrenes states that H.M.S. Dido which had returned to L.vuka from Wallis I«iand, reports that the vessel ashore there is the French war ship L. P. Hermit, of 1200 tons, wi-h a complement of 150 men. The vessel went ashore on the reef nnder steam while entering. The crew were landed safely except two, who were drowned. The German barque San Francisco has been .-cured to take the crtw to New Caledonia. The c-iptain demanded 2(0,000 francs, but ultimately agreed to ieave the price to the owner of the vessel when communicated with. HM.S. Challenger proceeds to Kandavau with Consul La?ard to survey the harbour. She then goes to the other parts of Fiji. LATE W.
