CORRESPONDENCE.

To the Editor op the Evening Mail. Sir — Why ia it that the present Ministry have such a determination to keep Nelson back, and why is it tbat the Nelson people are so easily gulled by tbe bunkum they have had doled out to them from time to time by the Premier, through his willing agent, Mr Luckie? Cannot tbe people see that the Government do not intend to make the railway down the Butler? Cannot they see lhat the intention is, and always has been, to make the railway from Canterbury through the Amuri to the Abaura, and thence down the Grey Valley to Greymouth and Hokitika, with a branch line from Ahaura to Reefton and the Lyell? Canterbury influence has been at work, and what chance has poor little Nelson against such pressure when the majority of her representatives worship the Yogel Ministry, and are satisfied with anything they are told. The latest humbug is that an additional £10,000 is to be expended on another survey to try and find an easier route, in my opinion the Government Bhoukl be asked to spend the money on something more useful, such as making a cart road down the Buller, so that we may have communication of somo sort with the Lyell and Reefton. If we are not to have the railway, do not let os be humbugged any longer by surveys and promisee. Let us rather demand our fair share of the railway fund, and push a cart road through without delay. I am, _..., Progress. Nelson, August 5.
