Unprecedented high tides occurred on Saturday ami Sunday. The lower part of the town was flooded, the sea encroaehinp a long distance. The houses in Kennedy-street were untenable, and more of the river bank was destroyed. Auckland, August 4. At the official declaration of the poll at the Waitemati election, Mr Von der Heyde was declared elected by a majority of 60. He proceeds to Wellington on Wednesday. Wellington, August 3. It is said that a deputation of Nelson Members waited on Saturday upon the Minister for Public Works regarding the construction of a railway between Foxhill and the West Coast, snd that the result was not satisfactory to the deputation, as the estimated cost is fixed at £8000 per mile. The Timts suggests that another line may te found from Foxhill to the Top House and b/ way of Tarndale into the Anmti and Canterbury. A survey of the line is likely to ba made. * • „. August 4.
