Unprecedented high tides occurred on Saturday ami Sunday. The lower part of the town was flooded, the sea encroaehinp a long distance. It is said that a deputation of Nelson Members waited on Saturday upon the Minister for Public Works regarding the construction of a railway between Foxhill and the West Coast, snd that the result was not satisfactory to the deputation, as the estimated cost is fixed at £8000 per mile.
