Wellington, July 31. The Tararua sailed at one p.m. for the South. The Albion will take a supplementary mail to Europe. Twelve hundred and thirty-seven shares have already been applied for in the co-operative cattle dealing and butchering society. August 1. The New Zealand Steam Shipping Company's steamers will be sold separately by private tender, to be sent in on the 22nd instant. The hulk and sailing vessels will also be sold separately. Bluff, August 1. After a survey of the brig Carl, it is reported that 35 feet of keel is broken from the sterm, and that the water pours in and out of her hold. Considerable damage is done, nnd she is recommend to be sold for the benefit of all concerned. New Pltmotjth, July 31. The enquiry into the wreck of the Paterson was concluded yesterday. The Court handed back to the officers of both the Paterson and the Eliza Mary their certificates, and intimated that judgment would be given on Thursday next. A second comet was visible at sunset last evening in a westerly direction with a tail about two degrees in length. A r<Ua tree 22 feet in diameter has been come against on the road at the back of Mount E^uaont, about fourteen miles from the town. Christchukch, August 1. To-day's quotations f.o.b atLyttelton are: wheat, milling, 5s 3d; oats, 43 9J; barley, none in the market; flour, £12 103 to £13; bran, £6; pollard, £6; sharps, £7; potatoes exceedingly scarce, at £4 10a to £5; butter, Is Id; cheese, 7d; hams and eggs, Bd. Auckland, August 1. Mr Buckland reports that 800 fat sheep were penned and sold at 4d per pound; fat cattle, 37s to 42s per 100 pounds; dairy cows, £9 to £12; ewes with lambs, 20a to 29a each. Mr Binney reports the grain market dull, oats, 53 to 5a 3d; barley, 5a 6d to 5a 9d; wheat, 6s to 6s 3d.
