Fatal Accident.— Mr Aekew reports the death by drowning of George Lively between here aod Wakapuaka. Mr Askew was proceeding to the Croixelles, in his boat the Ruby, and had gone below, leaving deceased at tbe tiller. He had not been there lon* when he heard Lively call out, end on running up on deck saw him in the water. He at once threw a piece of wood overboard, and put the boat about and had got to within four or fire yards of the unfortunate man, who bad a very heavy coat ou, when he eunk and nothing more was seen of him. Public Works Statement.— We publish to-day the statement made by the Minister of Public Works in the House last night. We have not yet had time to read it carefully, but after a hurried perusal are unable to express any great amount of satisfaction at Nelson's prospects of benefiting much by the public works scheme. These telegraphic summaries are nofc always to be relied upon,, and we shall refrain from making any comment until we are in possession of the Statement in full. Good Templarism. — A lodgo in connection with the Independent Order of Good Templars was opened in the Schoolroom, Lower Wakefield. on Thursday evening last, by Brother J. T. Smith, the General Deputy for the Nelaon district. The meeting was a public one, and there was a "large attendance. Several Brothers fro-n the Loyal Nelson aud Goo? Hope Lodges were present, and assisted the General Deputy in the Institution and and Installation ceremonies. At ths close of the meeting nine persons were duly initiated members of the new lodge, io addition to about 20 who had joined before. The following were installed as the officers for the present term : — Bro. H. Batt, W.C.T.; Bro. G. Sheat, W.V.T.; Bro. W. Baigent, W.S.; Bro. J. Mears, jun., W.F.S.; Bro. W. Verry, W.T.; Sister Currin, W.C; Bro. Fairey, W.M.; Sister Gibbs, W.1.G.; Bro. Brooks, W.O.G.
