WAIMEA ROAD BOARD.
Tuesday, July 14. : The monthly meeting was held at tbe Bridge Hotel, and tbe following members were present: Messrs Baigenr, Bamicoar, Martin, Tunniciiff,; and Jordan. . The Secretary having read the minutes of proceedings at elections in the sub-districts of Stoke, Spring Grove, aud Dovedale, whereby it appeared that Messrs G. F. Martin, Baigent, and Jordan had been elected for those sub-districts respectively, Mr Baigent wsa chosen chairman for the ensuing year, and Mr Barnieoaf, treasurer. The minutes of last meeting having been read and confirmed, The Overseer reported as follows : — " The following; contracts, let under Payment to Provinces, in Pigeon Valley leading to Dovedale are completed, viz., No. 3, W. Win, £4* 16<; No. 4, J. Wilkinson, £35; No. 5, J. Thompson, £57 ; No. 7, M. Davie?, £116. Some provision must be made for a supply of metnl for the subdistrict of Stoke — the port road leading to the beach is now quite impassable. I mide an agreement with Mr Stafford for the 'purchase of some pravel out of this creek at the rate of Is per load. The roads here are very bad and no material to repair them with. Io Waimea East I have kept carts constantly patching. Some damage has been done to the bridge by Hoddet's corner. Complaints have been mado against parties ot Hope for allowing their gorse hedges to spread on to the road, and which will soon impede the traffic. I have examined the road made by Mr Murcott round the rocks on the north side of the Wairoa Gorge; the length is about 13 chaius, and I estimate the value of work done at £50. I wish for your instruction to repair bye-road leading from Hodder'a corner »o the beach, it being much used by the Board, la Spring Grove a sum of £27 lls haa been expended in gravelling. The Board should protest against- taking over the road diversions made by tbe railway authorities in their present state, as no provision is made for their drainage. In Wakefield the bill for -gravelling is £46 11s. t Notices to cut and top their quick hedges should be sent to parties in MaddockY Bush. I am obliged to keep one man constantly on the Moutere Hills on account of the wet weather and the heavy cartage on same.". . Resolved, " That notices to trim their hedges be sent to all the parties indicated in the Overseer's report." No reply having been received to the. communication made to the Resident Engineer for tbe railway, it was resolved, "That the attention of the Overseer be specially directed to the several.railway croasiogsalr.eady formed, or being, or to ha formed, and that he. communicate with the railway authorities in reference thereto, if need be,; without waiting for special instructions from the Board. 1 ' The tender of W. Bicketts for gravelling road in Lower Wakefield at £l 4a per chain, waa accepted,, A letter having been received from Mr Fell giving the required undertaking in reference to compensation for the proposed road in Quail Valley, the Surveyor reported having, given notice to the contractor to proceed with the work. . . . ... Warrants were signed for £583. Mr P. Martin attended in reference to the road in Hammond's Valley, , and the Overseer received instructions as to work to be done there/ Mr Murcott attendad, and having' been paid the amount granted, by the Board, expressed his willingness to continue the road, and take payment in land, and requested a recommendation from the Board. He was directed to apply to the Government. An offer from H. Pickering : to procure gravel from Mr Rout's paddock at 2s per yard was accepted. ::■ ■ Resolved, " That tenders be invited for next meeting, on the 4fih August,
