QUALIFICATION OF ELECTORS' ACT.
Tbe Hon. Mr Reynolds has introduced a Bill to amend tbe law relating to the qualification of electors and members of the House of Representatives. We have been favored by a correspondent iv Wellington with a copy of the Bill, to which he attaches the following note:— " Received with great disfavor, and will be very much altered, if passed at all." The gist of the measure is contained in the second section, which runs as follows: — "Besides the qualification which immediately before the passing of this Act entitled persons to vote in the election of members of the House of Representatives, the following qualification shall, subject to this Act, entitle persons to vote in such elections, tbat is (o cay: — (1.) Every male person of the full age of twenty-one years, not subject to any legal incapacity, if be shall be a j natural-born subject of her Majesty, and if he has resided in New Zealand for six calendar months next before the last registration of electors, and in one and the same electoral district during the said period of six calendar months, shall, if duly registered, be entitled to vote at the election of a member or members for such electoral district. (2.) Every male person of the full age of twenty-one years and not subjsct to any legal incapacity, who shall be a naturalized or denizen subject of her Majeaty, and shall have resided io New Zealand for six calendar months prior to the first day of January in any year, and shall have been naturalized or made a denizen at least years preceding that day, shall, for the purposes of this Act and subject thereto, be deemed and taken to be a natural-born subject of her Majesty." The second reading of the Bill is set down for to-night.
