Present : Messrs Barnicoat (Chairman), Rout, Buddie, Broad, Garin, CampVell, Jackson, Burn, Wig-tell,' Mercer/Talbot, R. Smilb,- Fell, and Wastuey.
Minutes of last meeting read aud confirmed.
The accounts for 1873-4 wore read nnd signed.
The Inspector's Annual Report- and Keturns were laid before tho Board.
Resolved, on the motion of Mr Wigzkll, That an advance of £20 to meet current expanses ba mada to the Town Committee.
Resolved. on tha motion of Mr Fell, That the Secretary be authorised to affix tho Board's Seal to a transfer of Mr Wiikie 'a lease of the Motueka Reserve to Mr Slatter.
The Secretary was instructed to state, in reply to a letter from the Provincial Government, That the Board is not prepared to take over the Hospital at Brighton, now used as a schoolroom, and further, tp state to the teacher of Brighton School that subsidies can be given by the Board outside Education districts to teachers only, and uot in support of school building?.
Resolved, on the rr.otion of Mr Wastney, That £7 be allowed to tho Suburban North Committee to build a chimney at Cliftou Terrace.
Resolved, on the motion of Mr Fell, That it be a recommendation to tbe Finance Committee that «he sum of £10 be grauied to the Collingwood Committee for the purpose of rebuilding the school chimney, tepairing the porch, and staying the main building. \
Mr Obwles' application, to havp his salary paf^yhe-rate ol £8 Gs 8d permonth for the'two months during which he taught Clifton Terraces school was refused.
ttesolved, on the motion of Mr ErosD, That the consideration of the motion standing in Mr Simracns's name be deferred until tbe next mseting.
Resolved, on tho motiou of Mr Broad, That the Provincial Government be requested to cause nn inquiry to be made into the manner in which the Education rate has been collected in the City of Nelson duriug the past thre* years, and the Board respectiully requests that such inquiry should be couducted by a Commission to bo appointed by the Government, at least one member of the Central Board beiog a member of such Commission.

Resolved unanimously, on the motion of Mr R. Smith, That Mr Barnicoat be elected Chairman for 1874-5.
Resolved, on the motion of Mr Fell, J That the Secretary inform the Teachers Association, in reply to their request that the Board should fij£ a t^e when an increase of salves based on length and efficiency pf service should begin, that the preaent financial position of the Board does not warrant U in consider, ing the question of granting a, systematic increase of teachers' salaries.. on the motion of Mr Rout, That the Superintendent be requested to obtain the opinion of the Provincial Solicitor as to the liability of persons living in public buildings to pay education rates.
The following Notices of Motion were given :—' •' ■ ;;:: 1. By the Rev. A. M, Garin : That in consequence of the increased attendance at the Lower Takaka school, the salary of the teacher be increased from £60 to £100, such increase-, to begin from July Ist. . . ; 1 \2. By Mr Broad : ; That -\ thirty shillings bo granted for making a" door between the schoolhouse and teachers' room at Long Plain, and that a further Bum\ of £5 be allowed for sinking a well^for the sama school.
