Hannah and Amelia Hammond were charged with stealing certain chattels, of tbe value of £2 3s 6d, from the shop of Mr Walker, .. Waimearoad.
Prisoners pleaded Not Guilty; but after hearing theevidence o. Mr Walker and prisoners' brother, the Resident Magistrate said there could be no doubt of their guilt, and although prisoners were so young they bad already earned for themselves the worst of .characters. Constant complaints had been made to him of their pilfering habits and indecent behaviour. One of them had been convicted before for. petty larceny, and for the • present offeace he should sentence Hannah to 4 months, and Amelia Hammond to three months' imprisonment, with bard labor.
