The following intelligence respecting the Achinese war was telegraphed to the Colombo Observer from Penang on April 28 : —" Information recoived on the llth instant states that 8,000 Achinese attacked all the Dutch positions without success. On the 16th Achinese attacked the Kraton. All tbe troops were engaged for eight hours. 'Ihe Dutch lost 6 killed, including two officers, and 60 wounded. Further attacks are hourly expected. A great exodus has taken place, 2,500 Dutch only remaining." St. Stephen's Roman Catholic Cathedral at Brisbane was opened with great ceremony on the 17th ult, Seven bishops were present, and there was s large a.semblage of spectators. Our Sydney exchanges state that the ponti- . fical high mass, after the opening ceremonial, was attended by nearly 3000 persons. Archbishop Vaughan is said to have preached an ejoquent sermon. The proceeds of the collection amounted to £2000. ___ ,
