CITY COUNCIL.

The adjourned meeting of the City Council was held last evening at their office, his Worship the Mayqr in the j chair, Crs. Adams and Pitt were appointed solicitors to the Council on the motion of Mr. Fell. A petition was received from sixtyfive ratepayers, asking the Couccif'-to lake steps to compel the draining or N.fllling-in of a certaint stagnant pool in Waimea-street, known as the "Frogpond." Cr. Burns moved that a notice be sent to Mr. Wither, the owner of the land, requesting him to abate the nuisance. Messrs. Bethwaite and Robertson eent a specimen of un earth-closet manufactured by them, which, with two or three slight modifications, was thought would be what is needed on the coming into operation of the " Public Health Act," which takes place in 1875.\
