CITY COUNCIL.
The adjourned meeting of the City Council was held last evening at their office, his Worship the Mayqr in the j chair, Crs. Burns, Fell, Percy, Burn, Thompson, and Jennings being present In answer to a letter to his Honor the Superintendent, it was stated that the Provincial Solicitor was preparing a Bill to hand over to the City Council , all City reserves. - Messrs. Blecher and Taylor's contract for a new sewer in Hardy and Nil. -streets for £323 was accepted. The tender of the proprietors of the Colonist, for advertising, was accepted. Messrs. Adams and Pitt were appointed solicitors to the Council on the motion of Mr. Fell. A \ottav — r«« reoot-o'' _ ■«»— TW- A Hocton, requesting the Council to raise the foot-path in front of his cottages in "-Hastings-street. The Surveyor was j directed to report on the same. A petition was received from sixtyfive ratepayers, asking the Couccif'-to lake steps to compel the draining or N.fllling-in of a certaint stagnant pool in Waimea-street, known as the "Frogpond." Cr. Burns moved that a notice be sent to Mr. Wither, the owner of the land, requesting him to abate the nuisance. Messrs. Bethwaite and Robertson eent a specimen of un earth-closet manufactured by them, which, with two or three slight modifications, was thought would be what is needed on the coming into operation of the " Public Health Act," which takes place in 1875.\
