It is stated in the Argus commercial correspondence that disclosures of a most startling and extraordinary character have been made with regard to the conspiracy to defraud the New York Life Insurance Company by insuring, without their knowledge, tbe lives of persons residing in county Limerick, The local agent, Mr Barry, has absconded, and a warrant has been issued for his apprehension. One witness in bis examination said he was greatly alarmed when he beard it privately rumored that men were being done away with. It is also stated tbat some of the persons whose lives were insured were met with at fairs and markets by people who made them drunk, and that some of them have since died. There are now 5000 miles of wire in New Zealand, and over 500 persons employed in connection with the telegraph department.
