CHILDREN'S FESTIVAL IN BRISTOL
Tho following extract from a Bristol paper has been hauded to us with a request that we will give publication to it : — On Saturday the 3um of £230 was handed over to Mr Mark Whitwill for the Children's Hospital, as the result of tbe festival given a fortnight ago by a thousand children of the Wesleyan Sunday Schools of Bristol. The following letter from the treasurer bas been sent to each school:— My dear Young Friends — I tnke the earliest opportunity of congratulating you on the great success which has attended your musical festival. The idea of a children's concert for the benefit of poor sick children was a beautiful one, and it has been beautifully carried out. Your singing gave vast pleasure to those who had the pleasure of hearing it. It reflected very great credit on your kind friend and able conductor, Mr Gibbons, who has taken so much care to train you : and on all of you who have entered thoroughly into the spirit of the work, and whose voices sounded so sweetly, as you sang the praises of Him under whose banner I trust, you are all marching, resolved to be His faithful soldiers and servants to your lives' end, " battling for tbe right which ne'er can fail." May every one of you seek your highest happiness in truly serving Christ by benefiting and blessing others, and thus taste the luxury of doing good, and at laat reach " that happy home, where all is bliss and joy for ever." With ininy thanks for the valuable help you have given to the Children's Hospital, I remain, Your sincere friend, Mark Whitwill. To the Editors of the Western Daily Press. Gentlemen — I have to-day received tho noble sum of £230, tbo result of the efforts of the Wesleyan Sunday School children who, on the 29th of January, held a musical festival of their own at Colston Hall for the benefit of the Bristol Hospital for Sick Children. To the Sunday school teachers and children who, with so much zeal and enthusiasm, co-operated to attain the very satisfactory result, to Mr Gibbons, their able conductor, and to Mr Risoloy, who so kindly gave his services, I desire publicly to offer my warmest thanks, for wbich I feel sure you will give me space in your paper. I am, Gentlemen, Yours faithfully Mark Whitwill. Bristol, Feb. 21, 1874.
