WAIMEA ROAD BOARD.
Saturdat, May 2.
The Board met at the Bridge Hotel. All the memt ers present. The minutes of the last meeting read and confirmed.
The Overseer reported that he had not been aUe to make any arrangements with Mr F. Martin for delivering gravel on the road, but as he expected 3s per y nr<l for the material on the ground it would be found very expensive.
The Overaeer was therefore directed to get what is required from the beach.
A letter was read giving Mr Saxton's conFent to the proposed sloping of the banks and filling the ditch with the stuff.
Tenders for the supply of horses and carts in the sub-districts of Waimea East, Spring Grove. Waimea West, and .Oovedale were accepted. Those for Stoke and Wakefield being considered too high, were declined, and fresh tenders ordered to be called for.
Tenders were accepted for the whole length of road necessary to complete the cart road from Wakefleld to Dcvedaie. Warrants were signed for £285 Us 6d.
Secretary reported having made application to the Government respecting the bye-laws transmitted to them for approval, to which no reply has b. en received.
Sir D. Monro applied by letter for tho loan of a pile-driver. The Secretary was directed to reply that it can be had on condition that it be fetched and returned and a payment of 2s 6d lor each day until returned.
Application was received from Major Pntcn that the Board would render passable the roid near his property. The Secretary was directed to state that the Board is willing to contribute so as to meet the contributions of Major l'aton or others interested in the road.
Mr M. Hodgkinp applied to have an alteration in the road laid out in the main road in Dovcdale to land now leased by him, offering to cut the proposed line. Resolved that Mr. Hodgkins be informed that when he shall have cut the linf, it will be examined and reported on.
Mr J. Mercer attended ami complained of the encroachment of the gorge on the road mar his property, rendering his passage very difficult. Notices were ordered to he served on the parties whose lands adjoin the said road.
Complaints having heen made as to the present pay of the day men on the roads it was resolved that for the present they Bhall be paid 6s per day, commencing with the first of this month.
Application was ma^e to have the road from Spring Grove un Hammond's Valley made passable. The Overseer wns directed to see the parties interested in this road, and, should they consent to bear half the expanse, to get the work done.
Tenders were ordered to be invited by next meeting for clearing and forming a further portion of the road in Trass's Valley and Q'lail Valley.
