Wellington, May 2. The New Zed and Steam Shipping Company's et earner s will take their rest at Port Cnalmerd, instead of at Manukau as heretofore. g*. An important ruling has been given in the Resident Magistrate's Court re the New Zealand Steam Shipping Company and the barque Ssrtne. Mr Travera contended that captains and owners of ships could not be sued jointly for short delivery, and as the Botich sustained that view, the plaintiff consented to be nonsuited with costs. The meeting of Parliament for the despatch of business on the 3rd July is gazetted. A semi-official announcement in this morning's paper says that Sullivan will roach England probably in a few weeks. It justifies the course the Government took in the matter as usual and proper, and says that if the newspapers had a juster conception of the merits of the case Sullivan would not have been prevented from proceeding to San Francisco. The authorities there would have been made acquainted with his coming and charact.r, just as the Englisn authorities are already. The Government adopctd the course only after the ca«e had received the highest consideration possible to give it in the coiony. Auckland, May 2.
