PERSEVERANCE MINING COMPANY
To tub Editor op the Evening Mail. Sir— At the. meeting of the abovo Company on Thursday last, I think it was much to be regret' ed that so few attended, and that so much apathy seems to prevail among the general body of shareholders. Although the proxies given in at the meeting did not represent any thing like a majority of the shareholders, yet, if we scrutinise the parties desirous of winding up the Company, wc rind, amongst their number, six out of eight of the present Directors, the legal manager of the Company, several of the old Directors, and generally it wii be found those of the 106 slnreholders who voted aro parties who have taken an interest and made themselves acquainted with the character of the mine from its commencement up to the present time, and who have now come to the conclusion, that the Perseverance reef will not pay wori^hg expenses. In opposition to this we have a body of paid up shareholders who are anxious for further prospecting, in fact, to spend all the money before stopping the works Another difficulty in gettinl the M.« Im < n e U ?. lbe £ an< * vah,e > as required by the deed of the Company, h the fact of a SI < number , of ; d***, and .shareholders being scattered about in distant places, and !l C m e ,°, t ', in yer >' m W instances, respond to a call of opnion by the Directors. If the Directors of the Company find the above statement to be correct, I think it would be only fair and reasonable to allow all those shareholders who are willing to forfeit their shares to be allowed to do so, and be freed from an t further liability. 1 am, &c., A SirAREHOr/DEB.
