Auckland, April 21. The Governor met the hie: diy natives this morning, when a la go numb.r were present, but m rebels. A great many settlers also were present. His Excellency deliveied an eloquent addrt's-*, and taid that if the rebels chose ti live isolated lives, he did not desire to drag them from it. He illustrated their probable future by the following metaphor: — " So surely as this great river spreads to the tea, so surely will Christianity and civilisation fpread. Better to live on its' bank than be carried awa7 by the current." An address on behalf of tbo settlers thanked the Governor for the dignified position he had assumed towards the natives. The Good Templais objected to a number of licenses, but all. the objections were overruled except three or four, which were adjourned. A like number were refused on the recommendation of the police.
