The Bishop of Nelson and Mrs Suter were passengers by the Tararua which arrived from Melbourne via West Coast, ot one p.m. They were received at the wharf by a large number of friends, wbo accorded tbem a hearty welcome, and all the vessels in harbour were dressed with flags. It is intended, we believe, to hold a meeting shortly, when an address of welcome will be presented to tbe Bi3hop. Christ Church. — A special service oh the occasion of the return of tbe Right Reverend the Bishop of Nelson from England, will be held at Christ Church, this evening, at 7 o'clock. Nelion Football Club. — A meeting of this club was held at the Volunteer Fire Brigade Room last night, Mr Goulstone in the chair. The meeting was numerously attended, and tbere is every prospect of a first-rate club this season. Mr R. C. Tennent wa3 unanimously re - elected Secretary and Treasurer, and the following Committee was chosen : Messrs Adams, Barnicoa', Bunny, Roy, and the Secretary. The opening gome was fixed for Saturday next at J1.30 p.m. As the usual interprovincial match with Wellington will be played on the Nelson ground this year, it is to be hoped that our players will not lose the match for want of practice. A vote of thanks to the Secretary for his services during the past season, and one io the Chairman, terminated the proceedings. At. tbe Resident Magistrate's Court at Wellington last Friday James Wilkins WBS committed for trial on a charge of poisoning cattle with strychnine, sprinkled ever the leaves of cabbages, and inserted in holes made in cabbagep, and placed within reach of the animals poisoned. The defence of the prisoner was reserved. A man named Joseph Renshaw, commonly known as " Trotter Joe," committed suicide at Auckland last week by hanging himself with a clothes-lino, in an outhouse adjoining bis residence on tho Mount Roskill Road. Tho deceased was an aged man, having attained bis 55th year. A Hokitika paper learns that the population of the Hanst consists of twelve persons, which in the immediate neighborhood of the police camp is reduced to four — two members of the force, a washerwoman, and a man invalidod witb rheumatism, "\ An inquiry for woolfor the American market is reported to bave sprung up in and wool is selling better there ;in consequence.
