CHURCH PARADE * TO-MORROW (SUNDAY)., Members to meet in Front of Police Station, with side arms only, at 10 20 a.m. tharp. i C. L. MACLEAN, ' 1007 Acting Captain. THIRD HALF-YEARLY REPORT OF THE SOUTH BKITrsiL FIRE ANi> MARIN- INSURANCE COMPANY OF NEW ZEALAND. Presented at ran General Meeting of Shuisholdeks. held at the Office of the Company. Queej»-strket, Auckland, on Monday, Afbil isth, 1874. THE Directors, in presenting to the shareholders the Third Half-yearly Report and Balance Sheet of tho Conipaoy'd affairs, have again the pleasure of congratulating them on a large and stetdj increase of business with not more than a /air average of leases. The total premiums 'received during the half-year amount to £31,092 8s lid; leaving, alter deducting £3.196 Is sd, amount paid for re-irßurances, — £.7,896 7s 6d, as against £17,933 3s 6 J for the previous, ani £14 001 for the first half-ye«r. The third half-year's premiums show an increase of 64 per cent, on thoje of the second, and are nearly double those of the first half. The Josses for the half year amount to £13,570 15s lOd. Tho marked increase in the business of the Coirpiny, notwithstanding increased insurance competition in the Colony, will be gratifying to the hhareholders, and will doubtless be an incentive to 'hem to cootjnue to use their influence in favor of their Company. The amount to the credit of Profit ani Loss, on closing the books at the end of the half-year, was £.2,ft09 1 3s 3d; the Directors have carried £10.000 of this to th. Reserve Fund, and £4,687 10a, equal to 2s 6d per ptr eliare, to Capital, an 1 tbe balance, £7,*22 3s 31 is brought forward to current h-ilf-year. Tl.e Paid-up Capi al is now £42,187 \oi; the Reserve Fund £20,000. The Shareholders, bearing in mini the increasing business of the Company, will doubtless concur in the policy adopted by the Directors of making adlitions to the Capital and Reserve Fund rather ihan now taking money from the business to pay dividends;' while the general public, both investors and insurers, will not iuil to perceive an anxious desire to build up a thoroughly souud institution. The London Agency, now in full working order, is already doing a considerable busin si; this is owing to the valuable support afforded by the numerous importers of the Cotony, many of whom are Shareholders in the Company. Relying on this support from both Shareholders aud others, friends of local inBtitutions, the Directors anticipate that the Company will have a large aid constantly increa'jirg business betwetn London and the various ports of N<»w Zealand, as also those of Auetra ia. It will qe the duty of this meeting to elect two Auditors of the Company, in the place of John Batger and T. Leigh White, Esqs., whose term of office is expired, aad who arc eligible for re-election.
