BOARD OF WORKS MEETING.

To the Editor of the Evening Mail. Sir — The report which appeared in tlr's moriiing's Colonist of the proceedings of last night's Board of Works is so incorrect as far as my share in them is concerned, that I must ask you to allow me to state what I did say in reference to the Maitai bridge and the new eewer. As to the bridge I merely asked generally if any member of the Board ki ew why the bridge had needed certain small repairs which hud lately been done to it, and was informed that the length of ppan had made the timbers give slightly, and that it was being screwed up. I asked simply for information, and did not state that the bridge was in a " disgraceful state," nor that it 11 needed shoring up." Nor did I reflect in any way upon the character or stability of the bridge whether as a •' Government work " or otherwise. As to the sewer tie absurd "thought" attributed to me about " bricklayers turniog engineers " and " rushiDg into print " never occurred to me, nor was such a statement or anything corresponding to it made by me. I am, &c, Charles Y. Fell. Hardy-Street, April 7.
