NELSON SCHOOL SOCIETY.
The thirty-first anniversary of this Society vras celebrated laet night, when, after tea, which was well patronised, a largely attended public meeting was held. The chair was taken by tho Rev. Gr. H. Johnstone, who read a portion of Scripture, after which prayer was offered up by the Rev. D. Dolamore, and a number of recitations were then given by the children, and several hymns sung during the evening. The meeting was addressed by the Rev. G. H Johnstone, the Rev. D. Dolamore, and Messrß Lnngford junior, Smart, Hill, and Crmpbell. A committee was appointed for tbe ensuing year, consisting of the Rev3. E. Thomas ond D. Dolamore, Messrs J. Smith, W. Webley, M. Campbell, Smart, and I. M. HilL The Secretary read the following report : — We bave pleasure in bringinz before you our report, seeing that the Lord has honored us with thirty-one years labors. The return of our anniversary gives us once more an opportunity of praising Him who has placed in our hands a trust for Him Avho, when on earth, worked in the same misionfie'd, acd who, for the sake of pe r ishing »ouls, made himself one of us that He might bring to a successful issue the many prophesies and promises of salvation found in tho Scripture, and so comp'ete the eternal purposes of God th« Father. We rejoice in having God's word, ard in the privilege of giving it in its simple and pure form to the young minds entrusted to ub for Bib'e instruction. We declare our intention to proofed in our work, encouraged by the fact thnt the Lord desire b children brought unto him, and the Spirit, by the apostle John, dictated a letter to the eleet lady and her children, thus f peaking p'ainly that the Lord is still mindful of them. During the past year there haß been an increase in the attendance and in the number of scholars, which, though we accept as a good thing, has placed us in the position of need — the want of more teachers. Since last annivertary we have been in treaty with tho Central Board of Education, and we have again become the 6ole occupiers of our town prop; rty. This arrangement has been effected at a deduction of £15 per year from our income, but for which we lave received back the acre and the old brick schoolroom, togethar with the adjoining wooden building, the latter beirg an a'dition to the property since we leised it to tbe Central Board. The old school room needs a new roof and sundry other repairs, fo that Die balance in the Treasurer's hands is not sufficient to meet the intended outlay. We are now enabled to arrange our forms in a suitable manner, since in lieu of the cumbersome deks of the Government day school we have, as you see, the room more efficiently seated. Having now at our command two rooms, we hope shortly to extend the usefulness ol your Society's operations.
