London, January 23. New Zealand Hemp. — The mnrket lias continutd in a very sluggish, inactive state, being greatly affected by the recent downward tendency of Manilla hemp. Although several ■ parcels have been recently pressed for sale, only 900 bales changed hands since our fast issue. At the auctions to-day, 330 bales out of 950 bales, principally damages and secondbaud parcels, wore forced off at a decline in valuo of from £3 to £4 from our last quotations. This state of things is owing in a great measure to the comparatively low value of Manilla hemp, as consumers do not care to ? use substitutes. We regret to have to write such a discouraging report, and are sorry we cannot at present ec any prospect of any niatetial improvement, although Fhipmente must Boon ceaee.
