Preparations for the Great Exposition at Philadelphia are being made on a gigantic scale. A number of designs, furnished by competent architects, havo been considered i: by a* committee of selection, and tbat of Messrs Waux and Red ford, of New York, has beeo accepted. In oarrying it into effect, it will, however, undergo considerable modification, and, writes the New York Herald^ "All that can be said with sefety is that the plan of the building is rectangular, being 2040 feet long, by 680 feet wide, with greater width at the centre nnd ends up to 952 feet. The government dimension on the plan is a'square or pavilion, measuring 136 feet ou each side. The main parallelogram forming the building is therefore fifteen of these pavilions long, and five pavilions wide, an area equal to 31'8-i acres. Tho increased width- is obtained by adding on the long sides projections of three pavilions at the. centre and one at each : end; . It will cover 216 acres. It has been decided that ' Memorial Hall' shall be distinct from the main Exhibition bi? ild ing. The committee has also concluded that it will be necessary to erect tbe following buildings, viz :-— 1. The Art Gallery, covering one and a-balf acres. 2. The Grand Pavilion, or Main Industrial Hall, covering thirty-six acres. 3. The Machinery Hall, covering ten acres. 4. Tha Agricultural Hall, covering five acres. 5. The Conservatory." A project has been submitted to keep the"; Erie^rCahaL" 6{)e% "all winter, -by means of h'ot 'Water pipes on each side, along its entire length, to be supplied from boilers half-a-mile apart. The cost, it is said, would be as nothing to the result. A petrified negro was lately found jn » g ar /et over a law office in a village in Mississippi;' tit was supposed that lie undertook the study of the law and became absorbed in Blackstone. ~
