The Lyell Argus remarks : — " The . presence of a number of empty houses is usually considered a sign of fading grandeur and a waning trade, wa therefore see no reason why their absence should not bear witness to a contrary state of things; if so, then Lyell should be prosperous indeed, for with the single exception of a small and somewhat awkardly placed two-roomed tenement, there is not an empty house at Lyell."
