Mi. i ,i.i V ..,j; . i ss His Honor tbe Superintendent was unablp to proceed to Westport . to-day aB he had arranged to. db, urgent public business requiriog his presence at Wellington, whither he will proceed by the Phoebe on Saturday. The Cabandinis. — The concert of last night was without exception the best that has ever been given in Nelson by this talented company. The songs were a great many of them new to the audience, which was a very large one, the flail being crowded, and were given with unusual spirit. Mr Cotterell was at his best, and on the whole the entertainment was thoroughly successful. We are giad to find that owing to a delay in the sailing of the steamer the company will appear once more this evening, for which a capital programme has been published. The entertainment will . commence at a quarter to eight. Ode telegrams to-day will be found to contain much interesting matter. We are informed of two shipwrecks at the Wellington Heads on Saturday night, attended, we regret to say, withthe loss of seven lives. The steamer Macgregor appears to be completely lost, ail attempts to remove her from
the reef on which sho struck, having failed, while the fact of her having ten feet of water in one of the compartments testifies, to her having received some serious injury. The enquiry into the stranding of the Anazi ot Auckland is eliciting some queer facts regarding the conduct of the captain. Altogether, the three, days' accumulation of telegrams is well ; worth' reading. • Cutter Ann.— Tenders are invited for raising the cutter Ann as she now lies. Particulars are given in tbe advertisement. Interprovincial Cricket Match. — A etrong_eleven has been selected to play Wellington a two days* match' on tbeir own ground. It was hoped that Wanganui would havo sent an eleven to Wellington at tbe same time, but they are unable to get their players together. The eleven selected to represent this Province are: — Sellon, O. Knapp, K. Knapp, Fowler, Knyvett, Cross, Denshire, Coles, Barnett, Halliday and Tennent. It is possible that one of the names may be altered, but an equally good player would take his place. The eleven will practise at the Botanical Gardens on Saturday afternoon, and leave by the Phoebe at 4 30 p.m. the same day.
